Resolving VPN Default Gateway Issues


There is a setting on the respec Meraki VPN connections that can cause issues with accessing different company resources if not set correctly. If you are experiencing issues for instance with accessing shared file drive mappings while connected to the VPN then perform these steps to check your default gateway setting is set up correctly.



1) Open the network options on your system by clicking the network icon in the lower right corner of your screen.


2) Click on "Network and Internet Settings"


3) Click on "VPN" on the sidebar and then "Change adapter options"


4) Right-click on the VPN connection and select "Properties"


Note: For this step in the process, you may be presented with a login window for admin privileges. If you are then you will need to open MakeMeAdmin and elevate your user. Once done you can try again.


5) Click on "Networking" then double click on the "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP /IPv4) line


6) Click on the "Advanced" button



7) Make sure the check box that reads "Use default gateway on remote network" is checked. If it is not, then check it and click okay on all the windows to save and close them. 


8) Restest your VPN connection by connecting to it and see if your problems have been resolved.
